NASHVILLE, Tenn. – September 15, 2015 – Aerial Development Group has started site work on East Greenway Park, Nashville’s first health and wellness-focused residential community.

The 10-acre community in the Rosebank neighborhood is designed to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle for residents and neighbors. It will include 62 cottage-style homes that will be developed in phases over several years. Construction on the first homes is expected to begin this fall.

“As developers we have an opportunity to build a community that can positively and significantly influence the health of its residents,” said Britnie Turner, founder/CEO of Aerial Development Group.

“We’ve designed East Greenway Park to do just that by creating an environment where a diverse range of homeowners can be physically active and socially engaged.”

Located at the corner of Eastland and Rosebank in East Nashville, East Greenway Park will be activated for walkability and accessibility with wide sidewalks, trails and bike paths that maximize connections to Shelby Park and the Music City Bikeway. Tiffany Drive will also be extended through the site. Amenities will include:

  •  an outdoor gym and Fit Trail;
  •  community gardens;
  •  public bike racks and bike work stations;
  • a dog wash stand; and
  • outdoor gathering areas with fire pits, picnic tables and grills.

A coffeehouse or other commercial space will be located on the northwest corner of the site.

“One of our favorite aspects is the connection we are building to the Shelby Bottoms Greenway to provide homeowners and neighbors accessibility and a safer way to bike to work and enjoy the park,” said Turner.

When completed, East Greenway Park will include 62 cottage-style single-family homes, ranging in size from 1,250 to 2,400 square feet.

The East Greenway Park project team includes Hawkins Partners, Inc., Bynum Design, Village Real Estate, Civil Site Design and financing provided by Avenue Bank.

Aerial Development Group plans to build the community to LEED for Neighborhood Development specifications. Forty-one percent of the existing trees on the site will be preserved and trees that do have to be removed will be repurposed as benches and other structures within the community.

“Aerial’s focus on the health and wellness of its residents is an important commitment and precedent that we will be seeing more of in future development throughout Nashville,” said Kim Hartley Hawkins of Hawkins Partners, Inc., the landscape architects working on the East Greenway Park project.

In keeping with Aerial Development Group’s social venture business model, for each home sold, the developer will sponsor a child in a Kenyan orphanage for one year in the name of the homeowner. Aerial Development Group partners with Horizon Initiative in this sponsorship program that brings homeowners and orphans together. The homeowner has an option to continue with their support after the first year.

“Tennessee ranks in the top four in the nation for the highest population of obesity,” said Turner. “We will use our resources to be a force for good, changing this statistic and serving as a model for other development in Nashville.”
